The Maya Ultimax Project - based upon the Ultimax Armageddon set for 3DS Max, is a high polygon scifi hardbody modelling set featuring an end to end guide to building a large carrier class spaceship based upon the concept art used for the 3DS Max project (artist Jeremy Love) and adapted by Elliott Barratt. If you are interested in learning high detail modelling techniques that will be suitable for use both in games (via normal mapping techniques) and for effects and film then you will find this single DVD set very useful.
3D-Palace training DVDs are unique because we go the extra yard so that you get more for your money. All of our use the 'Cradle to Grave' method of teaching where, starting with a completely empty scene, we then build everything you see in the final finished images. No cuts, no pausing to load a prebuilt segment or model. Nothing added, nothing taken away.
Introducing the first Maya DVD for 3D-Palace, learn how to create this monster of a model. Right from the start you'll learn important techniques for streamlining work flow by changing the very User Interface to suit your modeling needs. Learn how to create your own custom shelf, complete with every tool and function you will need for the job at hand. The model itself starts from nothing but a cylinder, where straight away you will be shown how to manipulate objects, object components and various tools to create the desired polygonal model.
The set is split into 3 main segments:
The Arms, The Gun and The Engines. Each entails a mass of detail from individual scalable turrets to singular rivets to produce a model not only heavy in looks, but suitable for Film and Broadcast use. Techniques such as smoothing and duplication are utilized to great effect in the creation of the engines. You will also learn how to fake smoothing on primitive objects through heavy use of the bevel tool. At the end Cris Robson will take you into Photoshop where you will learn some useful techniques for compositing your model into a hand crafted matte space scene.
