The song is performed as a slow blues with Kings vocal and guitar accompanied by a small combo of pianist Sonny Thompson, bassist Bill Willis, and drummer Phillip Paul. The songwriting for Farther Up the Road is credited to Joe Medwick Veasey, a Houston-area independent songwriter/broker, and Duke Records owner Don Robey. Medwick then sold it the next day to Robey, with Robey taking Copeland's songwriting credit.Please Send Me Someone to Love is a blues ballad, written and recorded by Percy Mayfield, on Art Rupe's Specialty Records label.
