The band Carmel was formed in Manchester in the early 1980s, with singer Carmel McCourt, bassist Jim Parris and drummer Gerry Darby.
When their first single ("Storm"), released on an independent label, became a major hit in the UK, they quickly attracted the attention of the major labels.
Eventually they signed up with London Records, with whom they recorded four studio albums, succeeded by two albums with East West Records (another label under the Warner umbrella).
In the post-punk era of the 1980's, they became very popular in Europe, especially in the UK and in France, with their unique mix of jazz, soul, pop, gospel etc, and the one of a kind voice of Carmel McCourt.
But after those 6 albums, the band split, and for years those albums became unavailable on CD.
Until 2012 that is, when small start-up label Drumfire reissued all six albums, each remastered and enhanced with bonus tracks.
