Avid has announced updates to the Media Composer and Symphony line of professional video editing and finishing software. Familiar with Avid Editors notice updates Avid Media Authoring, allowing them to natively author the JPEG 2000 codec, as well as sequences of packets that supports versioning. While Symphony is a correction tool refined in its own right color, Avid is giving a little love to DaVinci Resolve students by improving how they link and relink files. Jumping back and forth between Avid Media Composer and finish third party applications, we hope to be easier than ever.
Finally, what could be more exciting for non-Avid editors who are thinking of jumping into Avid is an improved overall control of the timeline. For example, a big point of frustration for publishers from Final Cut Pro, Premiere or Vegas was the lack of drag and drop editing Avid.
In the past, adding clips to the timeline required a key or press the button, which makes the interface feels foreign publishers who do not know the Avid workflow. It is clear that Avid recgonizes and added drag and drop, along with other tools to facilitate this transition.
